Walker Activity Dome

Walker Activity Dome is located on the east side of Newcastle approximately 2.5 miles from the city centre and was previously known locally as “The Dome”. The venue is accessible on bus routes or via the metro with an approximate 20 minute walk to the venue. The centre has a long and positive history in the heart of Walker, dating all the way back to November 1965 when it first opened with its 61m diameter 'flying saucer' dome which was the largest in Europe. Its laminated timber ribs were covered in prefabricated reinforced fibreglass panels and cladding that had never been used before on this scale. Beneath the 14m high dome is an expanse of 2,300 square metres. Today, refurbished there is no end to the range of activities that can take place here such as badminton, netball, gymnastics, hockey, skating, events and much more!

The venue boasts a 36x36m main sports hall with a capacity of up to 2000 spectators including 800 on bleacher seating and 200 on the balcony overlooking the sports hall. In addition to the main hall, the venue has some fantastic hall and room spaces for hire in our Dome shaped building! From our wonderful 8 court sports hall to party rooms, function rooms and mixed activity tooms, there is something for everyone!
